How much are repair costs on an older 1999-2001 Mercedes Benz?

I’m considering a mercedes clk, probably a 1999 or 2000 with anywhere from 75,000 – 120,000 miles depending on what I find and am wondering what the cost of repairs will be on this car. Any owners out there that have benz’s from these years? Also, will it have a lot of problems or will it be a reliable car if I find one that has been well taken care of? I just don’t want to buy something and have it constantly in the shop making me go broke…If anyone can give me some insight to reliability and costs that would be great, thanks.

No one can tell you because it all depends on how each vehicle has been driven and maintained in the past. If the previous owner(s) neglected the maintenance and repairs, you can expect the repair bills to add up much faster than a vehicle that was looked after diligently throughout its life. This is why it is very important to have a vehicle inspected by a dealer or other trusted shop prior to buying a used car. Spending a few bucks on a pre-purchase inspection can save you thousands in unanticipated repairs.

Repair costs are astronomical on these cars. Reliability is fairly good.

Look for one with a full service history and no recent paintwork and with a little bit of luck you should end up with a nice reliable car. But keep in mind people tend to trade in a faulty car to save the repair cost. Air flow meters tend to go at the mileage you list.

As long as the car is in good ahape, you’re only looking into mantainance which is fairly acceptable. If the car gets broken because it hasen’t been cared for, you can look into seriously high bills.

Mercedes Benz are the most reliable cars I’ve ever had!!

When you get near or around the 100K mark. Its anyone guess as to how much of a money pit it will be. All I can say is my 99 E430 when I bought it (thank god it had an extended 12K warranty) 3K in bull shi* needed repair under warranty. Then after warranty ran out just a little over 102K the entire rear suspension had to be rebuilt. With the prices I got quoted, the cost of the repair was half of what the car was worth. I ended up doing all the work myself and it was around 600 bucks.

I dont care who says mercedes are the greatest cars. When the break and need service they are expensive no matter what model it is.
